Genealogy Research Services
Family Tree Historian provides professional genealogy services to beginners and intermediate researchers alike. We know how exciting it is to uncover the mysteries of your family history for yourself. But sometimes there’s a brick wall you just can’t seem to overcome, no matter how hard you try. That’s where we come in.
How It Works
1. You send us a completed “Research Request Worksheet”
When you are ready to work with us we ask that you first submit a ‘Research Request Worksheet’ so that we can better understand your research objectives and provide you with an accurate estimate.

This is also a really helpful exercise to assist you in identifying all the information you have already collected, and narrow down your research question. The last thing you want is for us to research something you’ve already found!
The Research Request Worksheet will ask you for the following information:
- Your contact information
- A description of what you want us to research
- Your ancestor’s vital information (e.g. birth, death, marriage, children etc)
- Other important info about your ancestors (e.g. immigration, military, religious affiliations)
- Places and records you have already searched
- If you have a deadline for this project

Once we have reviewed your completed worksheet we may contact you to clarify any questions or collect additional information.
2. We provide you with an estimate of our services
Finally, we will provide you with an estimate of our services. The estimate will include an overview of our services as well as the timeline and cost of your project. If you are satisfied with our estimate you will receive a formal contract to start the project.
3. You sign a contract to start the project
Contracts formalize the estimate and kickoff the start of the project. It will include the agreed upon services that we will perform, deliverables, compensation, terms of payment, deadlines, disclaimers, a confidentiality statement, as well as terms of service. If you have any questions about the contract when you receive it please do not hesitate to contact us for information or clarification.
4. We research, collect, analyze, and document our results
With all the legal stuff out of the way we can finally get down to the fun stuff! While every client’s research objective is different, the same basic process will be followed. Family Tree Historian will create a research plan to develop the best strategy for answering your research question. We will determine the best sources to search, start collecting anything we find, analyze it in the context of your research objective, and finally document our results in the research report you will receive. 5. You receive the results in a “Research Report”
A research report is a written account of how we investigated your research question. In it you’ll read about what records we consulted, an analysis of our findings and how they relate to your research question, and finally our conclusions based on our findings and analysis.
